Track of the Day: PEZNT - Chooftee

Happy New Year to you all. This marks 4 full years of weekly mixes and track of the day blog posts here at LAMP. For our first review of the year I wanted to talk about a Croatian duo PEZNT that I think is going to have a break out year this year. Comprised of Blacksoul & Marc de Line the new group has been catching may attention lately with releases on Nervous Records, Glasgow Underground, and Toolroom. Their latest "Chooftee", is the title track to a three track EP and comes from a favorite label of mine Great Stuff Recordings. A percussive groove made up of a myriad of tribal sounding percs, marimba's and what ever sorts of African style drums you can think make up the main theme of the track. Add in a booming bass line, vocal chorus and a super funky horn and you got yourself a banging house beat. I love how raw and authentic everything sounds within the arrangement. It feels dark and tribal while at the same time it has a gritty urban vibe to it. The other two tracks on this EP are majorly worth checking out as well. They all compliment each other very well and are worth a listen when you get a chance. They are linked below along with some other recent releases from PEZNT. Enjoy.
